When you registered, you told us about a particular technology, project, service or idea you'd like to learn about, or which you'd like to present to fellow participants. Briefly, again, what was that?
The technology that I use most is blogs, because of my classic print
journalist background. I have been blogging since 2003, when I began to post
my investigative reports and fiction to share with people outside Caracas
and Miami. I have a solid core of readers that have been with me for years,
especially for my column 'Migración de Escrúpulos', about an immigrant
struggling to adapt to the US. I have anothers blog, where I have
experimented with audio and video incorporated into the text. I was lucky
using them, but I have some problems in the use of the devices associated
with sound and video.
One technological issue that worried me is how to share knowledge with a
wider audience. Not everyone is online, and if they are, are using different
tools. Everything depends on the language and the generation. It is because
I work so hard to get involved in different socials networks as Facebook,
Twitter, Hi5, TV Online, etc. The Latino journalist still trusts email more
for sharing information, which has advantages but is limited in reach.
How do you define "journalism that matters," and please suggest ways for journalists and technologists to collaborate (structure, events, groups, processes) in ways mostly likely to sustain it.
I have a special interest learning about mobile technology that can be used for journalism, like joost, twitter applications or maps. I want to learn how to make mashups that can be fed with news by mobile and Internet. These kinds of technology allow the people to consume information inside a geographical context but get more from far away. The mobile phone is available for more people across socio-economical sector. It's a device with many possibilities for solve inequities, at least in information.
